HOW TO TAKE CARE OF SOD
For best results, lay sod on level, firm, lightly raked and good quality topsoil. Sod needs to be installed and watered within 24 hours but in extreme summer heat, within 6 hours. Stagger butt joints for a cleaner look and better water retention. Once an area large enough has been installed begin watering. Initial watering needs to soak through the sod and into the ground below. Maintain the moisture levels for 2 weeks following installation, at which point the sod will be well rooted into the ground. After 2 weeks, watering can be decreased to a deep soak every few days. Once sod has rooted well, mowing can be done at a high setting, never cut more than 1/3 of the height of the grass at a time. Maintain a height of approximately 2 inches. Fertilizer can also be put down on the topsoil before sod installation for an extra nutrient boost. Ideally, sod should be fertilized 3 times a year. Spring, summer and fall.
